“If you wanna take a look at people as a photographer, you´ll have to win their trust”

The Bedouin woman with children in the desert of the Arab Emirates? the Uigures in the west of China? the Punks at the countryside ? – in the beginning they all had indifferent fears. I showed them Polaroid’s or nowadays my digital camera display to win their trust. They see themselves the way I see them – and so they see me. If the like what they see I have the fortune to take more and intensive pictures.

Die Beduinenfrau mit Kindern in der Wüste der Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten ? die Uiguren im Westen Chinas ? der Punk auf dem platten Land ? - sie alle hatten anfangs Angst abgelichtet zu werden.
Ich gehe langsam auf die Menschen zu. Früher zeigte ich ihnen Polaroids, um ihr Vertrauen zu gewinnen. Heute sehen sie ins Display meiner Digitalkamera. Sie sehen sich, wie ich sie sehe – und damit sehen sie auch mich. Erst wenn ihnen beides gefällt, kann ich sie entspannt fotografieren.
